Arducam B0397 Camarray not detected on Jetson Nano, no I2C at 0x10

Hi all, hoping someone can help me get a Camarray camera working on a Jetson Nano.

I’m trying to implement the B0397 camarray kit (the one where 4 cameras are combined by the board into a single 1080p stream, compatible with the IMX219 driver) on a robot I’m building. But I’m completely stuck at the very first step.

I get an error whether the board is plugged in or not (with the ribbon cable connected, obviously). The main problem is there’s no I2C detection at all, even when I run i2cdetect. I was expecting address 0x10 (the IMX219 I2C address) to show up, but nothing appears.

Environment:

  • Jetson Nano
  • Fresh install
  • Power supply rated at 4 Amps
  • No other drivers installed

Things I’ve already tried:

Is it possible the board is DOA? And is there another product I could use as an alternative? Any help appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the detailed write-up. Before we jump to conclusions about the board being faulty, we need to get some diagnostic info off your actual setup so we can see what the Jetson detects.

Could you please generate a bug report on the device and attach the resulting file here? That’ll tell us a lot about whether I2C is even coming up on the connector.

Run these commands on the Nano:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

This will generate an arducam-bug-report.txt in your current directory. Please attach that file to your next post so we can take a look.

OK, done. I ran the commands and got the arducam-bug-report.txt. I’ve attached it to this post.

Just to restate the issue since it hasn’t changed: it’s the same whether the camera is connected or not. Working on implementing the B0397 camarray kits (4 cameras combined by the board into 1 1080p camera stream compatible with the IMX219 driver) on my robot with a Jetson Nano. Stuck at the first step. The error occurs whether the board is plugged in or not (with the ribbon cable, obviously). No I2C detection even with i2cdetect; address 0x10 (IMX219 I2C address) should show up but does not.

Environment is still the same:

  • Jetson Nano
  • Fresh install
  • 4A power supply
  • No other installed drivers

For reference, here’s what I ran to generate the report:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

Which output the arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory (attached).

Still triple-checked the wiring using the picture in the guide: Redirecting...

Also tried powering the board using an additional power supply, no luck there either. The red 3V3 LED shows up and the green LED blinks 3 times and then it shuts down.

Is it possible the board is DOA? Is there another product to use as an alternative?

Thanks, got the report.

Before we go further into the hardware side, something jumped out at me. You mentioned B0397 as a camarray kit that combines 4 cameras into one 1080p stream and is compatible with the IMX219 driver. But B0397 is actually the IMX477 kit, not IMX219.

Can you double-check the SKU number on your board/receipt? It’s possible there’s a mismatch between the SKU you’re referencing and the model you actually have (or were expecting). That would also explain why you were watching for 0x10 and not seeing it — the I2C address and driver expectations differ between the two.

Could you confirm the exact SKU printed on the hardware?

Hmm, interesting. I don’t have the board right in front of me right now but I’ll check the SKU and get back to you. If it is actually IMX477, what documentation should I be following instead? I was going off the 8MP/IMX219 camarray guide this whole time.

No problem. If it turns out your kit is IMX477 (the Camarray Arducam 12MP Synchronized Stereo Camera Bundle Kit), then you should be following that documentation instead of the 8MP/IMX219 guide. The driver-check section in particular is where you want to start, since it walks through the driver setup and expected detection behavior for that kit.

Here’s the correct link for the IMX477 (12MP) Camarray kit:
https://www.arducam.com/docs/camera-for-jetson-nano/multiple-cameras-on-the-jetson/camarray-arducam-12mp-synchronized-stereo-camera-bundle-kit/#10-check-the-driver

So two things to wrap this up for now:

  1. Confirm the exact SKU number on your board.
  2. If it is IMX477, redo your setup following the driver-check section in the link above, then let us know whether detection behaves differently (including what address shows up under i2cdetect).

Go ahead and post the SKU when you can and we’ll pick it up from there.
