Hi everyone, I’m having trouble getting my Arducam B0319 (HM0360 VGA camera module) working with a Raspberry Pi Pico using Arduino IDE. I’ve been following the official documentation on the Arducam site, but I can’t even get past the library installation step.
When I try to install the Arducam HM0360 library through the Additional Boards Manager URLs as described in the docs, the URL keeps coming up as invalid or expired. I’ve tried multiple times and it just won’t work. The camera has never worked at all since I got it. Does anyone have example code for the B0319 / HM0360 that I could use directly, or a working way to initialize this camera on Arduino IDE? I’m on a Raspberry Pi Pico.
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Before we dive into debugging the camera itself, could you share which specific product model you have? If you have a link to the product page (like from the store where you purchased it), that would help me identify the hardware revision and make sure we’re looking at the right documentation for your particular module.
Sure, the model is the Arducam B0319. It’s the HM0360 VGA camera module. I bought it from a local online shop so I don’t have an official Arducam store link, but the board itself says B0319 on it.
Thanks for confirming the model. I went ahead and tested the Additional Boards Manager URLs from the documentation page you mentioned, and I can confirm the URLs are working fine on my end — they haven’t expired or been taken down.
This sounds like it may be a network access issue. If you’re connecting from a network that has restrictions on certain external URLs, the Arduino IDE may fail to reach the repository and show it as ‘expired’ or invalid even though the URL itself is fine. This is a known issue in some regions where certain CDNs or hosting services used by board manager URLs are not directly accessible.
Ah, that makes sense. I am indeed behind a network that blocks quite a few things. So is there a way around this? I still really need to get this camera working.
Yes, you can work around this by configuring a proxy in the Arduino IDE so the network requests can reach the Arducam repository. Here’s how:
Go to Arduino IDE → File → Preferences (or Arduino IDE → Settings on newer versions). In the ‘Network’ section, you’ll find proxy configuration settings. Set the proxy type to ‘Manual’ and enter your proxy server details (host and port). If you’re using a local proxy tool or VPN with a SOCKS/HTTP proxy, point it there. I’ve sent you a screenshot showing exactly where this is configured in the GUI — check your private messages.
Once the proxy is set up, restart the Arduino IDE and try adding the Additional Boards Manager URL again. It should now be able to reach the repository and you can install the HM0360 library normally. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks! I’ll set up the proxy and give it another try. I’ll report back once I have the library installed and can test the camera itself.
