I’m working on a project where I need to control an IMX477 autofocus camera (model B0272) over USB. I’ve been looking at the Arducam B0278 CSI-UVC board as a potential option to bridge the camera to USB, but from what I can tell, the B0278 only seems to support the non-autofocus version of the IMX477. Is there a way to get autofocus working with the B0278 — maybe through an additional cable or some alternative method I’m not seeing?
You’re correct in what you’ve found. The B0278 CSI-UVC board as it currently stands is designed for fixed focus cameras only — autofocus control is not natively supported by the board’s firmware or hardware path. To add autofocus support to the B0278, it would require extra customization work. This would involve NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) on our side to develop the necessary support.
Understood — so the B0278 in its current form handles fixed focus only and autofocus would need custom engineering. We’re open to that route. Can you put together a proposal for what the customization would involve? We’d like to move forward with getting IMX477 autofocus working over USB via the B0278.
Just following up on this — haven’t heard back yet. Any update on the customization proposal for the IMX477 autofocus + B0278 setup? We’d like to keep things moving.
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you on this. Before we can draft a proper proposal, I’d need to understand a couple of things: what’s your expected order quantity, and do you have a budget range in mind for the customization service? That’ll help us scope the NRE work appropriately.
For quantities, we’re looking at around 100 units per order once we get past the prototype phase. Budget-wise, we haven’t set a hard number — we’re more focused on finding the most efficient solution that gets the job done. Let me know what you need from us to get a proposal started.
