Arducam B0264 OV2311 stereo camera kit shows no cameras available on Raspberry Pi

Hi all, I’ve got the Arducam stereo camera kit for Raspberry Pi (B0264 OV2311) and I can’t get it detected at all. Running libcamera-still -t 5000 just returns “no cameras available”. I’ve followed the quick-start here Quick Start Guide for Arducam CamArray HAT Kit - Arducam Wiki but no luck. Could really use a proper guide covering the interface connection, hardware checks, and driver install. Any ideas?

Just to rule out the most common cause — have you installed the Arducam build of libcamera? The stock Raspberry Pi libcamera typically won’t detect the B0264 OV2311 stereo camera, which produces exactly that “no cameras available” error. Follow the getting-started guide at libcamera and rpicam-apps - Arducam Wiki, then test with libcamera-still -t 0. You need the Arducam-provided libcamera build rather than the stock one for these cameras.

So I installed the Arducam libcamera from the site and it’s still not detected. Running libcamera-still -t 0 gives:

W: Repository is broken: libcamera-dev:armf (= 0.0.12 ) has no Size information
ERROR: *** no cameras avaialble ***

I’ve attached photos of how everything is connected. I followed the three steps in the camarray quick-start (same as the libcamera getting-started guide). Also, is it possible the latest Raspberry Pi OS (Bullseye) just isn’t compatible with the Arducam drivers?

Thanks for the photos — they actually show the problem. You’re using the white cable, but this kit needs the yellow one. On top of that, the camera isn’t seated onto the cable in the photos. That’s a physical connection issue, so libcamera reports no cameras regardless of the driver. I’ve sent you a reference image via private message showing the correct cable and attachment. Swap to the yellow cable, make sure the camera is properly connected to it, then run libcamera-still -t 0 again.

The cable was definitely part of it, thanks. Although I have to say the docs weren’t clear about which cable to use or how to attach it — the socket on this camera is assembled differently from the official Pi camera modules, so it really wasn’t obvious. On a different note, do you have any sample code or a step-by-step tutorial for building a depth map with this stereo camera? That’s the main reason I got it.

That’s fair feedback. The documentation doesn’t clearly show the cable type or the attachment orientation, and since the socket is assembled differently from official Pi camera modules it’s easy to get wrong. We’ll update the doc site with clearer pictures and notes. On the depth map sample/tutorial — that request is still open on our side, I’ll look into it and get back to you.

Any update on the depth map code? I’m still not clear whether it was ever released. I was hoping for a starting code pack and a tutorial. The showcase video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBZm40z7E8Y shows exactly what I’m trying to build.

I checked, and the program from that video was written for Buster OS, which is no longer supported, so it won’t be suitable for your current setup. The supported route on newer OS releases is picamera2. Start with the PiCamera2 user guide: Picamera2 User Guide - Arducam Wiki — that’s the path to use going forward.
