Arducam 8MP USB Camera shows "Camera not worked!" on Android 9 Chainway URA8

Hi everyone, I’m trying to get an Arducam 8MP 1080P USB Camera Module (SKU B0196, the 1/4" CMOS IMX219 mini UVC USB2.0 webcam with dual microphone) working on an Android 9 device. The device is a Chainway URA8 fixed Android RFID reader. I followed the paper instructions, but whenever I try to use the camera with the recommended app, the screen just shows the message “Camera not worked!”. I’ve never been able to get it to work. Has anyone run into this?

Thanks for the details. Can you confirm whether the camera works at all on another machine, like a Windows PC? That would help us figure out if it’s a fault with the camera itself or something specific to the Chainway URA8. Also, could you share a screenshot of what the app shows when the camera is connected?

I checked it on a Windows PC and the camera works properly there. I’ve attached a screenshot of the recommended app when I connect the camera. I also wanted to ask how I should go about debugging this on Android, and whether there’s a particular library you’d recommend for using the camera in my own app.

Good that it works on Windows, that rules out a basic hardware fault. Could you also try it on a regular Android smartphone? A lot of these UVC cameras work fine on a standard phone, and that test would help narrow it down to the Chainway URA8 itself.

I tried it on my Android smartphone and it works great there. So what’s going on with the Chainway URA8? That’s the device I actually need it to run on.

Thanks for testing that. Since the camera works on both Windows and your Android smartphone, the camera itself looks fine. Unfortunately we don’t have a Chainway URA8 here to reproduce the issue, so I can’t pinpoint exactly what’s different about that unit. It’s likely something on that device’s side, since the URA8 may handle USB UVC devices differently than a standard phone. For now I’d suggest using the camera on a regular Android smartphone, which has been a working solution for many customers. I’m afraid I don’t have a specific library recommendation for integrating it into your own app at this time.
