Hi,
It’s more or less weird because your post didn’t explain it as clearly as possible.
Since you are using a Hawkeye 64mp camera, why didn’t you choose to enable the camera driver with dtoverlay like dtoverlay=arducam-64mp?

I tried the arducam-pivariety after reading the readme for the driver at GitHub - ArduCAM/Arducam-Pivariety-V4L2-Driver: This driver is used for Arducam mipi camera with Pivariety board

I have it switched back to the arducam-64mp now.

dave@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo su -
root@raspberrypi:~# dmesg |grep ardu
[ 0.079486] platform fe800000.csi: Fixed dependency cycle(s) with /soc/i2c0mux/i2c@0/arducam_64mp@1a
[ 9.003972] arducam_64mp: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel.
[ 9.078815] arducam_64mp 0-001a: failed to read chip id 4136, with error -5
[ 9.108494] arducam_64mp: probe of 0-001a failed with error -5
root@raspberrypi:~# tail /boot/config.txt
[pi4]

Run as fast as firmware / board allows

arm_boost=1

[all]
enable_uart=1
dtparam=i2c_vc=on
dtparam=i2c_arm=on
dtoverlay=arducam-64mp,cam0,media-controller=0
#dtoverlay=arducam-pivariety,cam0
root@raspberrypi:~# libcamera-still --list-cameras
No cameras available!
root@raspberrypi:~#

that error in dmesg is where I think the problem is which is why I tried to use the driver that is in the stock kernel.

It looks to me like the kernel module loaded fine.
root@raspberrypi:~/arducam# lsmod |grep ardu

The camera works in an old version of the OS from 2022.

Hi @r1220gsdave,
Since the camera can work on the old version of the OS, you can flash a new image with the latest OS onto your SD card and then follow the steps in the link below to configure your Pi so that the camera module works.
https://docs.arducam.com/Raspberry-Pi-Camera/Native-camera/64MP-Hawkeye/#raspberry-pi-bullseye-os-6121-and-laterbookworm-os

The camera works now on the latest. Thanks
