Arducam 64MP camera won't work on Raspberry Pi 4B; chmod fails for bug report

I’m trying to get a 64MP camera working on a Raspberry Pi 4 B 8GB and I honestly can’t get it to work at all. I’ve gone through the setup steps on arducam.com and the GitHub pages, and I’ve re-imaged the Pi five times now. Bought four of these cameras and not one of them has ever worked for me. Where do I even start debugging this?

Before we dig into troubleshooting, it’d help a lot to have a full diagnostic. Could you please reboot the device and then run the bug report tool? Just run these three commands one at a time:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report

That should produce an arducam-bug-report.txt file in the directory you ran it from. Please attach that file here so I can see what’s going on with your setup.

I can’t actually get the bug report. I downloaded it, but when I run the chmod command it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Is there another way to get the report? I’m pretty stuck here.

For reference this is a Raspberry Pi 4 B 8GB with the 64MP camera, I followed the instructions from arducam.com / GitHub. I also tried asking on the forums and re-imaged the Pi five more times, still nothing. All I get is nothing working.

Don’t worry about the warning you’re seeing, it’s safe to ignore. Two things to check:

  1. First, let’s confirm whether libcamera is actually installed. Run:
dpkg -l | grep libcamera
  1. Then re-run the three bug report commands again, but copy each one and paste it into the command line. Don’t type them by hand, since small typos are the usual reason chmod seems to do nothing:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report

Once that finishes, attach the generated arducam-bug-report.txt here.

Alright, I’ve done everything else for the setup, but now I’m stuck on installing the libcamera dev or apps. When I try, it says the repository is broken. I can’t get past this step at all.

Here’s what I’m seeing:
image0.jpeg
image1.jpeg

I’m not sure if this is related to the 64MP camera setup, but nothing I’ve tried lets me install the libcamera packages.

Thanks, that helps. Quick summary of where we are:

  • The warning you saw earlier can be ignored, it isn’t the real problem.
  • We still need to confirm libcamera is installed with dpkg -l | grep libcamera.
  • Please re-run the three bug report commands by copy-pasting them exactly (not typing by hand), and attach the resulting arducam-bug-report.txt.

The broken-repository error you hit while trying to install libcamera dev/apps is the blocker right now, and it’s likely why nothing has worked yet. Before we can suggest a fix, I need the bug report file so I can see the full kernel, camera, and package state of the Pi. Once you attach it, we can figure out the next step together. I’ve also sent you the diagnostic details privately, so please check your messages.
