Hey everyone, hoping someone can help me out. I’ve got an Arducam 16MP camera (IMX519) that was working totally fine on my Raspberry Pi Zero, no errors at all. Then I ran apt update && apt upgrade and now the camera just doesn’t work anymore.
I went back and followed the re-install instructions again, but the driver install script fails with “Cannot find the corresponding package”. It also prints something about an unsupported kernel version.
My setup:
Camera: Arducam 16MP (IMX519)
Board: Raspberry Pi Zero
Hardware Revision: 9000c1
Kernel Version: 5.15.74+
OS Codename: bullseye
ARCH: armv6l
I ran this command:
./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed
Hi, thanks for the detailed report. That error message is the key clue here. Can you paste the full output of the install command so we can see exactly what package it’s looking for and where it stops? The output usually prints the hardware revision, kernel version, OS codename, and the requested package name before failing.
./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed

Cannot find the corresponding package, please send the following information to [email protected]
Hardware Revision: 9000c1
Kernel Version: 5.15.74+
Package: imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed -- bullseye-v5
You are using an unsupported kernel version, please install the official SD Card image(do not execute rpi-update):
https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/operating-systems/
So the package it wants is imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed -- bullseye-v5. Interesting that it downloads the links file fine but then can’t find a matching package.
Perfect, that’s exactly what I needed. This is a kernel version mismatch, not a hardware or network problem.
Here’s what’s happening: the install script downloads a list of available prebuilt driver packages, then tries to match one against imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed for bullseye on your kernel 5.15.74+. Your apt upgrade bumped the kernel to 5.15.74+, but at that point there was no prebuilt IMX519 kernel driver compiled for the 5.15.74+ kernel yet. So the script finds the links file, but there’s no corresponding package for your exact kernel, which is why it prints “Cannot find the corresponding package” and the “unsupported kernel version” warning.
Just to confirm a couple of things:
Did the apt upgrade actually change your kernel? You can check with uname -r.
Also, can you confirm you haven’t run rpi-update? The script explicitly warns against it, since it installs bleeding-edge kernels that won’t have matching drivers either.
We’ve been pushing out updated driver packages for newer kernels as they land. I’ll check whether 5.15.74+ is available for the IMX519 low-speed package now.
Checked with uname -r and it reports 5.15.74+, so yes the upgrade definitely changed the kernel. And no, I haven’t touched rpi-update — I saw the warning in the script output and stayed away from it.
If it’s just a matter of waiting for the matching package for 5.15.74+, that makes sense. Originally the camera worked fine before the upgrade, so it does sound like the kernel bump is the culprit.
Good, that confirms the root cause. The 5.15.74+ kernel was simply not supported yet by the imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed package (bullseye-v5), so the prebuilt driver didn’t exist for it — hence the error.
Good news: support for the 5.15.74+ kernel has now been released. Could you please try the installation again using the same command you used before?
Just run it the same way as in the guide (Redirecting...). The script should now find a matching package for 5.15.74+ and complete the install. Let us know how it goes.
Just re-ran the install command and this time it found the package and completed without the “Cannot find the corresponding package” error. No more unsupported kernel warning either. Camera is back to working the way it was before the upgrade. Thanks for the help!
One thing worth noting for anyone else reading this: the script really does mean it about not running rpi-update — keep to the official SD Card image path: Raspberry Pi OS downloads – Raspberry Pi
Great, glad it’s sorted. Quick summary for anyone finding this thread later:
Symptom: Arducam 16MP (IMX519) camera stopped working after apt update && apt upgrade; install script failed with “Cannot find the corresponding package” and an “unsupported kernel version” warning.
Root cause: after the upgrade, the kernel became 5.15.74+, for which no prebuilt imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed (bullseye-v5) driver package existed yet, so the script couldn’t match a package.
Fix: driver support for kernel 5.15.74+ was released, and re-running ./install_pivariety_pkgs.sh -p imx519_kernel_driver_low_speed now installs correctly.
As a general rule, avoid rpi-update (the script warns against it too) and stick to the official SD Card images so your kernel stays within the supported range for these driver packages: Raspberry Pi OS downloads – Raspberry Pi
