Hey everyone, hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I’ve got an Arducam 16MP Autofocus Camera for Raspberry Pi (https://www.arducam.com/16mp-autofocus-camera-for-raspberry-pi/) and I can’t get it working on my Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 8GB running ubuntu-desktop 22.01. I’ve been trying for about 3 days now. Searched the Arducam forums but everything I found was for Raspberry Pi OS/Raspbian, nothing that covers linux-ubuntu. How do I actually install the camera on this setup?
Thanks for the details. I checked the driver support for the 16MP Autofocus on Raspberry Pi Ubuntu, and unfortunately the driver doesn’t support the Raspberry Pi Ubuntu OS. The camera and that OS are incompatible, which would also explain why you couldn’t find anything for linux-ubuntu on the forums.
Ah, that makes sense. So there’s no way to get this specific camera working on ubuntu-desktop 22.01 on the Pi 4? What OS should I be using instead?
Correct, the Pi Ubuntu OS isn’t supported for this camera. The setup that’s confirmed to work is Bullseye OS — the Arducam 16MP Autofocus driver is supported there and works well. I’d suggest flashing Bullseye onto the Pi and then following the standard Arducam instructions for that OS.
Got it. So I need to move from Ubuntu to Bullseye OS on the Raspberry Pi, then run the normal camera driver install for Bullseye. I’ll reflash and report back if anything still fails.
Exactly — run the camera on Bullseye OS instead of Ubuntu OS on the Pi. The Arducam 16MP Autofocus camera driver is supported on Bullseye OS but not on the Raspberry Pi Ubuntu OS, so that switch should get you past the incompatibility. If it still misbehaves after the reflash, post back and we can go from there.
