Arducam 12MP IMX477 camera not detected on Raspberry Pi after enabling CSI

Hey everyone, I’m having trouble getting my Arducam 12MP IMX477 Motorized Focus camera detected on my Raspberry Pi. The CSI ribbon cable is properly secured to the CSI port and I’ve confirmed the camera interface is enabled in raspi-config. But no matter what I try, the camera just won’t show up at all.

I’ve attached a photo of the connection and a short video showing what I’m seeing:

Anyone run into this before? Not sure what else to check at this point.

Thanks for reaching out. I reviewed your attachments and noticed something odd — the video appears to show the camera connected to a Jetson device, not a Raspberry Pi. Could you clarify what platform you’re actually testing on? Just want to make sure we’re troubleshooting the right setup here.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I also tried connecting the camera to a Jetson device as an additional test to rule out whether it was a Pi-specific issue. The original test was on a Raspberry Pi, and when it didn’t work there, I borrowed a Jetson to see if the module would be detected on a completely different platform.

Unfortunately, the result is the same — the IMX477 module is not detected on either board. At this point I’m starting to think this might be a hardware defect with the camera module itself. Is there anything else I should try before concluding that?

Just following up — any update on this? Still stuck with the camera not being detected on both the Raspberry Pi and Jetson. Would appreciate some guidance on next steps.

Let’s dig into this a bit more. For the Jetson Orin side, did you install the IMX477 camera driver specifically? The driver doesn’t come pre-loaded for this sensor, so it needs to be installed manually.

Here’s the guide for the Jetson Orin: Quick-Start-Guide - Arducam Wiki

That said, the fact that it’s not being detected on either platform does make me wonder if this is a hardware-level issue. But let’s rule out the driver first before jumping to that conclusion. Can you confirm whether you’ve gone through those steps on the Jetson?

Okay, I’ve now gone through the entire driver installation process on the Jetson Orin exactly as outlined in the wiki. Followed every step — installed the IMX477 camera driver, rebooted, checked everything. The camera is still not being detected.

So to recap:

  • Raspberry Pi: camera interface enabled, cable seated properly, not detected
  • Jetson Orin: all drivers installed per the Arducam wiki, not detected

At this point I really think there’s something wrong with the module hardware itself.

Thanks for going through all of that. Given that the camera remains undetected on two separate platforms — even after following the full driver installation on the Jetson Orin — I agree this is pointing toward a hardware fault with the module.

I’d like to take a closer look with you directly. I’ve sent you a private message with details on how we can set up a remote troubleshooting session. That way I can verify the setup in real time and confirm whether we’re dealing with a defective unit. Please check your messages when you get a chance.
