Arducam 12MP 477P camera installer cannot find deb package on Jetson Orin Nano

I’m trying to get the Arducam 12MP 477P Motorized Focus High Quality Camera working on a NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano. I ran the installer and it fails with:

Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to support
Kernel version: 5.10.192-tegra-35.5.0-20240613202628
Jetson type: UNKNOWN
Device: NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano

Not sure why it reports the Jetson type as UNKNOWN. Any ideas?

Thanks for the log. That message means the installer can’t find a matching deb package for your kernel/JetPack combination. Can you confirm whether this is the Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit? Also, could you post or send clear photos of the front and back of the board so I can identify the exact hardware? That will help me source the correct driver package.

Yes, it is the Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit. I’ve sent photos of the front and back. Did you receive them?

Got the photos, thanks. I can see it’s the Orin Nano Developer Kit. The driver problem is now being checked internally; I’ll update you once there’s progress.

I re-ran the installer to capture the full log. Command was:

~/Downloads$ ./install_full.sh -m imx477

Log:
./install_full.sh: line 19: warning: command substitution: ignored null byte in input

Then it still fails with:
Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to support

Thanks, that full log confirms it. We’ve been debugging the driver for L4T 36.3.0 / JetPack 6.0, and it now works there. Your current system is L4T 35.5.0 with kernel 5.10.192-tegra-35.5.0-20240613202628, and there’s no matching deb for that combination. Flash the Orin Nano to L4T 36.3.0 / JetPack 6.0, then re-run ./install_full.sh -m imx477 and test again.

After flashing JetPack 6.0 / L4T 36.3.0, the driver and camera are working. But the image quality is not great for my use case. I need to capture a datamatrix/text at about 1 m distance. At around 25 cm it’s sharp, but beyond about 40 cm it degrades. The target area isn’t wide, so I need high resolution at 1 m with a narrow field of view. I tested focus using FocuserExample.py from ~/MIPI_Camera/Jetson/IMX477/AF_LENS. The camera is the Arducam IMX477 12MP motorized focus: Arducam 12MP IMX477 Motorized Focus High Quality Camera for Jetson Nano/Xavier NX

Glad it’s working after the flash. For the 1 m sharpness issue: FocuserExample.py is only a basic demo, and that camera uses an M12 lens. The focus settings need to be tuned for your specific target distance and application. Also try manually adjusting the focus by screwing the M12 lens. The relevant files are in ~/MIPI_Camera/Jetson/IMX477/AF_LENS (Autofocus.py, Focuser.py, JetsonCamera.py, FocuserExample.py).

Focusing is under much better control now. I also need to control shutter speed. Can you point me to the documentation for the camera control libraries?

For shutter speed, the exposure/gain controls are documented here: Troubleshooting - Arducam Wiki

That, combined with the M12 lens focus adjustment, should get you sorted for the 1 m datamatrix capture.
