Where did you get the camera module(s)?
Direct from ArduCam site -
Model number of the product(s)?
Arducam SPI Camera 3MP -
What hardware/platform were you working on?
Google Coral Dev Board -
Instructions you have followed. (link/manual/etc.)
Attempted to follow the getting started documents, and saw the following instructions to adapt the SDK: " If users want to adapt the SDK on your own specific platform, you should modify this layer and HAL layer. For the details, please contact [email protected] for further support." -
Problems you were having?
Didn’t receive a response from the email, and attempted to modify the Raspberry Pi code as it seemed the closest related device (only other linux OBC). Had difficulties as the code is fairly low level requiring direct memory management. Is there a way to utilize these cameras without having to individually manage the registers? The marketing led me to believe I could control it a bit easier then that through SPI. -
Troubleshooting attempts you’ve made?
Attempted to map register bases from RPI to Coral, but got segmentation faults. -
What help do you need?
Could someone point me in the right direction of where to get started adapting the SDK? The docs say to modify the HAL layer which was fairly simple, however the underlying SPI handling code seemed pretty complex. Is there an easier way to handle the camera on a linux board? The Arduino library and code seemed a bit simpler.
Was able to figure an alternative out for now. I converted a micropython library by CoreElectronics to CircuitPython, and used Blinka to control it. Solution feels very hacky, but it works. If anyone is in a similar position and looking for a way to use the cameras on a not-yet-supported linux OBC such as the Google Coral, feel free to check out my repo:
